Fancy That®'s debut on the new MEGAWAVE label is a core example of Ann Arbor's eclectic pop-rock sound. The alter ego of Ann Arbor rock band, Nuthin' Fancy®, Fancy That® first formed in 1996.

The band members' different musical influences are reflected in the unique styles of their original songs. Jim Schoolcraft, Ray Bailey, and Tom Scherer each contribute to the composition of each song, with Jim Schoolcraft and Tom Scherer being the primary vocalists.

Jim Schoolcraft sings primary vocals and plays lead and rhythm electric guitars and acoustic guitar. His rhythm-lead playing style is carried over from his live performances and expanded in this studio effort. Ray Bailey plays electric bass and sings backup vocals, previously performing with many other Michigan bands, including Silent Radio®, also on the MEGAWAVE label. Ray's accomplished playing style provides a range of emotions, at times serious and deep, other times playful. Tom Scherer plays drums and keyboards and sings vocals. Playing drums since grade school, Tom has fused many playing styles into one - his own. By playing point and counterpoint throughout, he weaves a rhythmic fabric on which the group springs forward.

Together, Fancy That® has something to say about our lives and times, and some of the things we all go through along the way.

The members of Fancy That® also perform as Nuthin' Fancy®, with a harder Detroit rock sound.

We Can't Live Together

Living in a world, so full of anger. There's wars around the world,
Making decisions, affecting your life, day to day.
And I don't know why, we can't live together, got to do it now.
Share this earth we call home.

People talking about, problems with their lives.
I can see where they're coming from, victims of their own lives.
And I don't know why we can't live together, got to do it now.
Let's share this earth, we call home.

I don't know why, people got to die, and there's no reason why.
And I don't want to cry, no I don't want to die,
And I don't know why, we can't live together. We got to do it now.
Let's share this earth, we call home.

Wait A Minute

You've got to be patient, patient for the rest of your life.
Take things more slowly, and they're bound to come out right.
Every time I look at you, want to stay with you the rest of my life.
You're every thing I hoped for, but something is just not right.

That's when you tell me to slow down, now take a look,
And wait a minute for the rest of your life.

When I am with you, you're everything to me.
That's when I feel good, that's where I want to be.
But you don't see it my way. To you it's just not right.
You say to me, those words that truly prove my plight.

You tell me to step back, now take a look, to take a look and see.
Hey what you want from me? Wait a minute for the rest of your life.
I don't want to wait.

Be careful what you do, it could stay with you the rest of your life.
Be careful what you say, 'cause sometimes it's just not right.
Why you would come on to me, truly blows my mind,
And then to find out that you, you are so unkind.

You tell me to step back, now take a look, to take a look and see.
Hey what you want from me? Wait a minute for the rest of you life.

I don't know what to say, or what to do.
I don't want to wait for you.
I don't know what to say, or what to do.
I don't want to wait for you.
I don't want to wait.

Misery In A Dress

As I look back on our time together
I think I'm finally beginning to see.
You'd sometimes cut me down then turn to laugh with your friends.
This time I think I've finally learned this game has to end.

You've taken my life away from me
And now the time has come to take it back.

My friends ask me man can't you see it.
She's cast a spell on you with her looks and smile.
They said just break it off right then, save your self some pain.
I said I will, just don't know when, but now you've cut me again.

You've taken my life away from me
And now the time has come to take it back.

The years have flown and I haven't missed you.
You're just your daddy's little girl, guess you always will be.
I hope you've found someone you love who plays games like you.
You don't deserve much better love, you've earned it it's true.

You've taken my life away from me
And now the time has come to take it back.

New Idea

It comes to my attention, about things we see day to day.
There're some bad things we got to deal with. They don't seem to go away.
We need an effort to right the wrongs, or else we're going to pay.
Well I'll do my part and you do too, and together we'll make a plan.
Let's get together on what we need, to help and heal the land.

Another new idea is coming over me,
But it's old, said it's old as can be.
Oh well now I hope, that I'm not, the only one to see,
This new idea, that's best for you and me.

Now you should know how I feel about it, it should be obvious to see.
Well, let's not waste time just talking about it, let's do it now you and me.
See there's too many things going wrong, that don't seem to go away.
Let's do it now you and me, we've got to save the day.
Yeah, we've got to save the day.

Another new idea is coming over me,
But it's old, said it's old as can be.
Oh well now I hope, that I'm not, the only one to see,
This new idea, that's best for you and me.

I hope you see this new idea.

Trapped

There's this guy I know, who works real hard for what he's got.
And from the outside it looks as though he's got a lot.
He's got a house in the city, with two cars in the garage.
Everything looks so good on that corner lot.

Well, he works hard everyday,
Most times the evening time too.
Doesn't have time to enjoy all the things he's got,
With all the things he's got to do.

He feels trapped, in his job.
He feels trapped, in his way of life.
That's what he feels.

Working everyday takes its toll on your mind, with nothing to look forward to, what can you do.
Well, he longs for the day, when he doesn't have to worry about his pay,
But right now that time seems a lifetime away.

'Cause he's working everyday,
Trying to bring home some pay.
Living way above his means.
It's the only way.

Someday comes he'll take the time,
To sit around the house and enjoy his life.
But Monday comes too soon.

He feels trapped, in his job.
He feels trapped, in his way of life.
That's what he feels.

He needs to know that it won't always be this way.
And when he gets old that he'll live on and have a place to stay.
But right now can't seem to find that light at the end of the road.
He's all bogged down with such a heavy load.

'Cause he's working everyday,
Most times the evening time too.
Doesn't have enough time to enjoy all the things he's got
With all the things he's got to do.

Someday comes he'll take the time,
To sit around the house and enjoy his life.
But Monday comes too soon.

He feels trapped, on his job.
He feels trapped in his way of life.
That's what he feels.

Fall Breezes

I like those fall breezes
The colors the trees.
I like those fall breezes
The colors the trees.

In the summer time the weather is hot and you move real slow
No where to go. It's a drag just getting around.

In the spring time the flowers coming into the scene,
The buds on the trees the grass getting real green.

The winter time is cold and the snow hurts your face,
And the ice slips under your feet, don't you know.

I like those fall breezes
The colors the trees.
I like those fall breezes
The colors the trees.

In the fall the leaves turn to gold and yellow and red and orange,
Makes you feel real good.

Winter snow is coming on its way
And you know the frost is here to stay.

I like those fall breezes
The colors the trees yeah.
I like those fall breezes
The colors the trees yeah.

So Far Away

Morning is ending. Night time is turning into day.
I'm thinking about you girl, but you're so far away.
Now and then I wonder, what ever happened to our love.
Did it just fade away, did it just disappear?

Day time is ending. Evening is turning into night.
I'm looking for you girl, but you're no where in sight.
Every time I think of you, the feeling comes over me.
That makes me want to stay. Why'd I ever want to leave?
I just don't know.

So far away. So far away. So far away.

Lots of time has passed since we've crossed each other's paths,
And baby I see life is treating you good.
I think about the love we had and all those good things we did.
I don't understand why I let you slip away for so long.
It's so good to see you baby.

Get Away

Everyone needs a get away,
A time for fun and a time for play,
To make this world a better place,
To take the time to slow down the pace.

Life keeps up its hectic pace.
You've got to keep up stay in the race,
All these things you have to face.
Day in day out I know it's true.
You've got to do what you got to do.

A time to make peace in your mind,
A place to really unwind,
I know this place I need to find, for my mind.

Well I got my saddle and my riding boots.
I don't know where I'm going, but I know it's time to choose.
I got to keep moving, 'cause I keep on losing, in this worldly game.

Well, I hope you know what I'm trying to say.
I'd like to take you on my get away.
We don't have to go very far away,
To find the time and words to say,
Say the things we need to say.
Let's get away.
